Installation instructions for Mercedes-Benz
Electronic Parts Catalog - Flexible Publishing (EPC-FP)
April 2005, Worldwide Regions, Full Vehicle Coverage
Version 11.4.3

Instructions last updated August, 2008

Before you install!
===================

* You MUST un-install all other EPC's first. Otherwise when starting the
install program, you will get a 'Severe' error stating 'Incompatible
Program Found'. Run the uninstall program from your old EPC. If it is not
listed in 'Add/Remove Programs', you may need to search for a program
named 'BHUNINST.EXE' on your old EPC install disc.

* Acrobat Reader is required on the system. The DVD will install an older
version, so it's recommended to get the latest version from Adobe.com
before installing the EPC. The current version as of August 2008 is Acrobat
Reader 8.1.1, which offers improved functionality over earlier versions.

* If you plan to install both the EPC and WIS on the same computer, install
the WIS first - then install the EPC. Install WIS Standalone if you don't
need the client/server functionality.

Step 1 - Program Manager (PM) Installation
==========================================

* Put the EPC DVD in the drive. If the installer does not launch
automatically, navigate to your DVD drive letter and manually run
'Setup.exe'.

* Choose your installation langauge.

* The 'System Requirement Audit' screen shows what is required and what
your system has. If you meet the requirement it will say 'PASS', if not it
will say 'FAIL'. If you have anything that has failed, exit the installer
and correct it. Anything labeled 'UPGRADE' will be installed automatically
before the EPC installes; this applies to Acrobat Reader and MB Program Manager.

* Let the installation install ('upgrade') the required software
applications (Progam Manager, and also Acrobat if you didn't pay attention
to the earlier instructions). Make sure you change the language when prompted
(default is German). If you already have Reader installed, only the Program
Manager setup will launch.

* Choose drive letter for "Mercedes-Benz PM" (c:/ is the default), click Next.

* After PM install completes, the computer will restart automatically.

* On Windows XP you will now get a prompt to choose which user account to log
in to. (If your XP system previously only had a single account, this screen
will be new to you - don't panic.) DO NOT log in to "HP Update Access Account",
use a regular Account (your own Account). This should not affect Windows 2000
installations, since W2K doesn't support multiple users like XP does.

* Then the EPC installer restarts automatically, beginning the EPC setup program.

Step 2 - Using the License Key Generator (KeyGen)
=================================================

* After completing the Program Manager installation, restart the EPC installation
program now ((DVD-DRIVE letter):\SETUP.EXE) if it did not automatically restart.

* Click 'Next' a few times and you will see the 'Software License Key' dialog
box. Write down the 12-digit LAN ID number (you can't copy/paste the LAN ID).

* Cancel the installation. You will be asked if you really want to exit, because
the setup is not complete - select 'Yes' and exit the installer. You'll see a
message that installation failed, click 'Finish'.

* Locate the "EPC Key Generator" folder on the DVD and launch "epc_kg22.exe".
This is located in the 'Installation Guide' directory. When you launch the
keygen, you should see a window titled 'Daimler Chrysler EPC KeyGen v2.2'.

* Enter your "LAN ID" (LAN Address) you wrote down earlier. Enter '1' for
number of users. Do not click 'Expire' checkbox. For the complete worldwide
setup, select 'Allmarket' from the pulldown list. Otherwise click the 'Custom'
button and select the regions, vehicles, and datacards you want. For example,
for USA only, select 'North America' and the 'Datacards' checkbox to the right
of North America. Click 'OK'.

* Now click on the little 'magnifying glass' icon at the top right of the
keygen window - this will create the license key. Copy the generated key,
INCLUDING the asterisk.

Step 3 - EPC Installation!
==========================

* Now that you have the license key generated and copied, re-start the EPC
installer ((DVD-DRIVE letter):\SETUP.EXE). Click Next several times, and
then paste the license key (including asterisk!) when prompted. Click 'Next'
and you will see a dialog box that says 'Restarting License Service - Please
Wait.' This may take a minute or so.

* In the "Drive Mapping" window, things work backwards from what you'd expect.
Check the drives that you do NOT want to install the database, for example, if
you check all drives, besides drive C:\, it forces the installation to copy
the database to "C:\bhdata". If there is not enough space to install you cannot
proceed. Either go back and create a license key with fewer regions/vehicles,
or make room on your hard drive. The full worldwide setup needs about 6GB.
North America only is 750MB, North America and EUrope cars only (with
datacards) is about 2GB.

* Choose default language (US English), and "Default Hersteller" to "WDB".

* Click 'Next' several times. If you get a warning message 'Cannot open file
LOGFILES\UPDATE.LOG', click OK, the installation should proceed anyway.

* Let the installation finish copying files (this can take a long time), then
restart your PC, and click on the "EPC Flexible Publishing" icon on the desktop
to start the application.

*Now you can look for replacement parts for: Cars, G-wagons, Transporters,
Trucks, Buses, Unimogs, MB-Tractors, and so on - depending on what options
you chose for a Custom license key, if you did not choose the full/worldwide
'13 CD' install.

*You can delete the "HP Update Access Account" since you do not need it
for normal use of the application. TO remove it, go to Control Panels,
User Accounts, select that account and delete it.

Troubleshooting
================

* If the system locks up or hangs while copying files, you may need to do
a 'hard reset' of the computer, possibly pulling the power cord, if it will
not respond to keyboard or mouse input. After rebooting, launch the EPC
installer again. The license key you previously entered should still be there
and you should NOT have to use the KeyGen again.
